2. The most important hygiene products
As with any other vacation, a few toiletries are a must-have in your luggage, whether at a campsite or in the wilderness. Here, too, the motto is: less is more. Because everything you bring with you is just extra baggage. Depending on whether you're backpacking through Austria or camping with your family by a lake in Sweden in a campervan, what you need will vary. Are you traveling with friends? Then agree beforehand who's packing what—that'll save your back.
The most important gimmicks from the hygiene department are:
- brush
- Shampoo, shower gel (e.g. in solid form)
- Deodorant
- hair tie
- Tampons / Pads / Period Underwear
- Creams
- Toothbrush and toothpaste
- razor
- Pill / Condoms
- toiletry bag
- handkerchiefs
- nail set
- Sunscreen
- Contact lenses
- and much more
3. A small first aid kit
Are you more into camping or van life? No matter where you go, a small first aid kit with the most important medications is a must. This will help you treat minor aches and pains in no time at the beach or in the mountains. A splinter in your finger, a minor graze, or a tick in the back of your knee all need to be treated immediately. Always have the following with you:
- First aid kit
- Painkillers
- Wound disinfection and plasters
- Tweezers / tick tweezers
- Wound and healing ointment
- Own medication
- and much more
4. The necessary papers & finances
A weekend trip to nearby Holland or weeks of wild camping in Scandinavia? Depending on your trip, consider what documents you'll need and equip yourself with the necessary cards, money, and essentials. If you're traveling to a country with a different currency, make sure you withdraw a certain amount of cash from a trusted bank before you leave.
Here again the most important financial companions :
- cash
- The right currency for each country
- Neck pouch (with RFID blocker)
- EC and credit card
- Bank emergency number
- wallet
- ID and driving license
- health insurance card
- Copies of important documents
- and much more
5. Weatherproof clothing
Functionality is an absolute must when camping, and so is appropriate clothing ! Nothing is more annoying than constantly freezing while camping or getting sunstroke in the midday sun while hiking. Traveling in a campervan doesn't automatically mean you should fill the extra space with clothes. After all, you're probably not traveling alone, and who wants to live in chaos? That's right, nobody!
Now's the time to layer your look : This saves you from lugging around a bunch of thick wool sweaters. If you get warm while hiking or the temperature drops at the mountain peak, you can quickly put something on or take it off to feel comfortable again. Be sure to check the weather forecast at your destination before you leave and adjust your clothing accordingly. Our travel wardrobe recommendations are:
- functional underwear
- functional shirt
- underwear
- socks
- hardshell jacket
- rain jacket
- Hiking / climbing pants
- down jacket
- Short pants
- fleece sweater
- T-shirts
- pajamas
- Mosquito and sun protection clothing
- Headwear of your choice
- and much more
The list will vary depending on the time of year you're traveling. In warmer locations, don't forget your swim trunks or bikini. If you're camping in northern or very cold regions, one or two more layers will be helpful. Do you have children? Don't forget mud clothes: They protect against both dirt and cold and keep your little explorers warm at all times.
6. Food and drink

Food and drink are essential to every successful camping trip with friends or family. Before anyone gets cranky from hunger on a long car ride, you should be well-prepared. If you're traveling to remote locations, pack the essentials right away. However, if you're always close to a supermarket, it's better to buy everything locally. The rule of thumb: be prepared for the first day and bring additional supplies for cooking evenings, such as:
- Spices
- Vinegar, oil
- salt, sugar
- Coffee, tea, cocoa
Of course, only if you have enough space. In addition to everyday cooking essentials and morning coffee, pack the following items :
- Dishes
- Cups, mugs
- Can or bottle opener (Swiss Army knife)
- dish soap
- Garbage bags
- tea towels
- Sponge / dishcloth
- kitchen roll
- wooden spoon
- toilet paper
- boards
- and much more
It depends on how much you cook yourself and whether you are traveling for a short or long time.
