How to light your gas grill properly – unleash SKOTTI’s power!

Junger Mann macht neben seinem Hund und Zelt den Skotti Gasgrill an

The best thing about your gas grill? It's quick to light and offers tons of sizzling fun! We'll explain how to light SKOTTI and what you should keep in mind when using your gas grill.

Lighting SKOTTI: Step-by-step instructions

Once lit, the gas grill will provide you with hours of feasting with juicy steaks , grilled vegetables, or delicious burgers. Before using your SKOTTI for the first time, please read the safety precautions and operating instructions to ensure you are fully informed.

We will now introduce you step by step to all the important to-dos for lighting:

Step 1: Preparation

Proper preparation is key when grilling. Set up your gas grill outdoors in a well-ventilated area , away from flammable materials and objects. Check the gas level in the gas cylinder beforehand and make sure the burner tube isn't clogged and that the gas seals and hose are intact.

Have you not used your SKOTTI for a while? A leak test with a soapy water solution from a spray bottle will help you check the hose. Spray the gas hose and the connections between the SKOTTI and the gas cartridge. Then open the gas regulator. If small bubbles form, do not use your SKOTTI and first order a new hose from our replacement shop . The same applies to other gas grills.

Tip : To avoid grease fires, check that no old grease remains in the grill before starting your grill. Is everything working properly? Then, ready, set, fire away.

Step 2: Assemble the grill

For detailed assembly instructions, check out SKOTTI's user manual . Assembly only takes a few minutes , and you'll get more comfortable with each use.

  • First, put the two long side pieces and the short one together and place the base (with the curve facing down) between the three side pieces.
  • Then insert the combustion tube and place the radiant plate over it like a roof.
  • Finally, secure everything with the last side panel. There you'll find the perfect notches for the burner tube.
  • Insert the grease tray and fill it with water (1 cm high).
  • Place SKOTTI in front of you so that the round end of the burner tube points to the right.
  • Hold the grill grate with the SKOTTI logo facing down to the right. Then, first place it into the designated recesses on the right side and snap it into place on the other side.

Step 3: Prepare the ignition

After you have successfully assembled SKOTTI and tested it thoroughly, connect the gas bottle.

Tip: Some gas grill models have an electric ignition, while others require manual ignition. For electric ignition, press the ignition button; for manual ignition, always use a long lighter or firelighter.

Step 4: Light the grill

To light SKOTTI, proceed as follows:

  1. Slowly turn the gas regulator on the gas cylinder until you hear the gas flowing.
  2. After about 1 - 2 seconds, ignite the gas in the burner tube with a lighter or match through the honeycomb-shaped ignition and flame control hole on the base.

For other gas grills:

Carefully insert the pilot flame or lighter through the ignition hole of one of the burner tubes. With electric ignition, the burner should ignite in a few seconds. For manual ignition, hold the lighter to the open burner hole and simultaneously turn the corresponding control knob to the "ignition" position. Once the burner is lit, release the control knob.

Step 5: Preheat the grill

Heat up your SKOTTI thoroughly and wait a few minutes before starting the grilling process. If you have a SKOTTI Cap , preheat with the lid closed to ensure it gets extra hot.

For other gas grills: Close the lid and let the burners run on high for a few minutes to preheat the grill grate. This ensures the grill surface reaches the right temperature for optimal searing.

Step 6: Grill

Now it's time for the fun part: It's grilling time . Place your SKOTTI on the gas grill and place it on the carrying bag to catch any dripping grease, which you can then easily wipe off.

For other gas grill models, remember to keep the grill lid closed during the grilling process to retain heat and ensure even fermentation.

Tip : Use winter gas or power gas at temperatures below 10°C. These work perfectly even at low temperatures.

Step 7: Turn off the grill and store it

As soon as SKOTTI has cooled down, you can simply store all the parts back in the washable bag to save space .

  1. Make sure the gas control is turned to the right and all parts are cool.
  2. Unscrew the gas cartridge from the gas regulator.
  3. Disassemble all parts, starting with the grill grate.
  4. After the grease drip tray has cooled, dispose of it in a suitable location. (Contact your local waste disposal company.) Never pour it down the drain.

Other gas grills: After grilling, turn all control knobs to the "OFF" position and turn off the gas supply at the gas cylinder. Wait until the grill has cooled down before cleaning and storing it.

By following these steps, lighting your SKOTTI gas grill and preparing delicious outdoor meals will be a breeze. Remember to always follow the manufacturer's safety instructions and handle open flames and gas responsibly.

How to clean successfully

Super practical: You can easily clean SKOTTI in the dishwasher. All parts – except the burner tube and gas hose – can be put in the dishwasher after your barbecue adventure. This includes the cover bag. Before cleaning, check that the cleaning agents are suitable for stainless steel surfaces. Otherwise, scratches may occur.

Is there heavily burnt-on food? Then first soak these parts thoroughly in dishwater . To make SKOTTI sparkling clean, we recommend using steel wool soap pads for stainless steel surfaces or other grill or oven cleaners. These remove even burnt-on food with little effort and at a low price – and SKOTTI will shine like new again.
